Late May Fishing Report!

Late May Fishing Report!

Uncategorized
What a cold, windy, & wet spring we've been experiencing here in Door County! The water is higher then I've ever seen it before, which gives the smallies a lot more places to hide! The water temps range from 45 degs up north to almost 60 degs in Sturgeon Bay. Even though we've had tougher conditions we have still been able to put great Smallies in the Ranger 620FS all May! The first major wave of Spawning fish are starting to nest along the shallower Harbors and Bays. A large majority of the Bass are still pre-spawn. The best June Fishing in history might go down this season. It is setting up to be lights out with longer days, warmer temps, and Smallies wanting to push up shallow! Full moon…

Cast N Catch Report: Yesterday we were able to get on the Ice just south of Sturgeon Bay. The Ice set in very bumpy this season due to Rewarming, breaking up, and Strong winds. The ice is any were from 4 inches to 10 inches.  Yesterday we were able to get to about 30 FOW. The bite was fast and furious! We caught our limit of Whitefish in about 2hrs. Today's bite:   We were able to find the whitefish on a small hump with minimal depth change. The Green Bay whitefish yesterday wanted the bait extremely close to the bottom. We used jigging tactics with jigs and minnows yesterday. Door County Ice conditions are always changing. Once we found the fish we set up the Eskimo Hub Style shack…

Washington Island Bass Report! July is upon us and the weather is fantastic up here on Washington Island! The Lake Michigan breeze has kept us a lot cooler then the rest of Wisconsin. The Smallmouth Bass Fishing is RED HOT!! The season Began on Sunday July 1st and the bite has been amazing! Both number and Big fish are being caught currently. The fish are in the post-spawn phase, which is historically kind of tough but we are having great results. We've been using a lot of tactics due to fish being scattered following the spawn. Our best baits have been Dropshotting small plastics, Tubes, Neko rigs, Spybaits, Swimbaits, and Jerkbaits. The fish are all done spawning and this season is setting up to have the fish stacking up on offshore humps and reefs in no time! I still…

Recently Cast N Catch Charters has been on an outstanding Pre-spawn Smallmouth Bass bite here in Door County, Wisconsin! The Fish are definitely not all up Shallow yet but a great age class of 3.5 to 4.5 lbs fish are up and feeding at all times of the day! We've been mainly using techniques like Neds, Tubes, and Hair Jigs to catch these fish due to cold water temps. Fishing with Lucky Craft Pointers has produced some absolute giants! Water temps currently are main 46 deg. This means that the best fishing is yet to come! Historically my favorite Water temps for Pre-spawn action is 48 to 52 degs. Most of the fish we are catching are anywhere from 10 FOW to 2 FOW. Natural colors have been producing almost…

Finally Bass Fishing! Well, After what seemed like an endless winter, Smallmouth Bass Season Opened Saturday, May 5th. It was a great day and I was super excited to be back in the Ranger 620FS guiding customers! We found great pods of fish on Saturday in most of the spots we fished. We were able to catch about 4 or 5 fish from each location and ended up with 37 fish saturday. The biggest fish we caught was a Giant Door County pre-spawn female that weighted just under 6lbs!! A lot of big fish are up in the shallows currently and a lot are still out in the bay waiting for the water to warm up a bit more. Sundays weather was a lot different then Saturdays 70 deg and…
